Split Rock Jumping Tour Partners with Green Is the New Blue at Lexington

Environmental Organization Worked with SRJT to Implement Eco-Friendly Programs

Lexington, KY – July 01, 2020 The Split Rock Jumping Tour completed a successful partnership with Green Is the New Blue, an equestrian environmental organization launched in 2019, at its Lexington International CSI2*. Green Is the New Blue, a registered 501c3 not-for-profit organization founded by Stephanie Riggio Bulger, an amateur hunter-jumper rider, is dedicated to preserving the planet by helping horse shows, equestrian facilities and individuals reduce waste and promote sustainability. In addition to educating staff, riders, trainers, vendors, and spectators on simple, yet effective, ways they can make a difference, the organization provides tools to make it easy to implement changes.

At Lexington, Green Is the New Blue partnered with the Split Rock Jumping Tour to implement several environmental initiatives including providing reusable water bottles and expanded recycling including the return of ribbons for recycling. Signs were posted in both English and Spanish throughout the grounds encouraging recycling and water conservation, particularly in the stabling areas, and those on the grounds were urged to join the green movement and educate themselves about how they can make a difference in reducing our sport’s impact on the environment both while showing and at the farm.

“I want to thank and commend Derek Braun and his Split Rock team for the extra effort they put into conserving resources and reducing waste,” said Scot Evans, Creative Director of the Green Is the New Blue. “I believe that our partnership with Split Rock has added impetus to the green movement we are building and I look forward to working with them at their remaining events this year.”

Derek Braun, Split Rock Jumping Tour Founder and CEO, could not have been happier with the partnership. “I was really happy with the cooperation we saw from everyone at Lexington. Coming at this time when everyone is more conscious of what we can accomplish by working together, I think it is a very positive sign of what horse shows can do to help the environment. I commend Stephanie and Scot and thank them for giving us the opportunity to support what they are doing.”

Now in its sixth year, the SRJT has been revolutionizing the way the sport of show jumping is presented in the U.S. and has been creating a truly "unparalleled show jumping experience" for competitors, sponsors and spectators alike. Competing in the SRJT is unlike any other American horse show experience. SRJT competitions offer top prize money, extravagant awards, special entry packages, and numerous first-class amenities not typically found at any other horse show.
